About the Rain City Diaries

Say what you will about the end of the recession...

...but Mark "Sparky" Toews has a different story. Mark has been out of work for 14 months. The usual methods weren't getting him any closer to real employment, so he decided to try something new. Wednesday afternoon found Mark on the busy intersection of 156th and 40th in Redmond - right in the heart of Microsoft territory. Dressed in job interview finery, Mark handed out business cards and resumes to motorists who rolled down their windows and wished him luck. "I've handed out hundreds of resumes. Yesterday I was at the Columbia Tower in downtown Seattle and tomorrow I'm headed to Bellevue. Unemployed tech folks rack up a lot of debt, and I've got to do something about it. This has gone on long enough."

You can't fault his initiative, that's for sure. Someone give this guy a job.
