I built my first site on MSN Communities just about two years ago while spending the winter in Austria. (If you'd like to read abut that, go here.) I migrated to Tripod when I returned to the US and I've been trying to keep the site updated since then - not an easy job. I divide my time between working in the US, playing outside in Austria (where my husband is from), and traveling to exotic and not so exotic locations.
Sometimes I write about travel, sometimes about TV, sometimes about politics, whatever is on my mind when I sit down to write.
I work as a contract technical writer plus, I pitch in on Web site production, project management, and a bunch of other jobs that defy classification. Right now (Summer '03) I'm dividing my time between writing documentation for a business networking tool and editing promotional materials for a software marketing and support company. I'm always looking for new projects ; if you've got a gig for me, you can reach me via email.
I do contract work because it keeps me free to travel. (You can read a little about some travel adventures in the US here.) Lots of people ask me about the insecurities of life as a free agent and I always tell them the same thing. You have to plan for it, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's not for everyone, but I learned the hard way that the benefits of staying a freelancer far outweigh the advantages. For me, that is. You may feel otherwise.
Thanks, as always, for reading. Drop me a line if you want to be on my personal mailing list.
